Heavy metals in packaging

In the Netherlands, there are strict requirements for foodstuffs to ensure that the risk of excessive intake of heavy metals through food is low. But what about packaging materials? Can heavy metals get into the foodstuffs from packaging materials? And what are the legal requirements for heavy metals in packaging materials?
To provide answers to these questions, the KIDV has drawn up the fact sheet Heavy metals in packaging. This document discusses various types of heavy metal, with information about the possible risks of these, examples of incidents and information about European and national legislation.
